PSION ORGANISER II RAMPAK

This Rampak is for use with the Psion Organiser II (Model XP only)

You can store and retrieve information with the top level SAVE and FIND facilities; you can save procedures written in OPL and you can store files and procedures captured with an RS232 Link cable from another computer.

Rampaks are the ideal medium for developing programs in OPL. When a procedure saved on a Rampak is edited, the old version is deleted completely, freeing the space it occupied for the new version to be saved. This means that a procedure on a Rampak may be edited any number of times, provided the procedure does not exceed the available space on the pack.

When a program has been developed on a Rampak and has reached its final version, you should back up the procedures to a Datapak for security purposes.

Rampak save times are faster than Datapaks and draw very little power from the Organiser. The Rampak has ites own built in battery with a life of approximately five years.

Caution. Static electricity can damage your Organiser and Rampaks. You should protect the Organiser, Datapaks, Rampak and cables at all times from any possible source of static electricity.

Using the Rampak

To use the Rampak, first ensure that the Organiser is switched off. Plug the Rampak into one of the slots on the back of the Organiser and use it in the same way as you would use the internal memory of the machine.

Before removing the Rampak from its slot at the back of the machine, again ensure that the Organiser is switched off. Failure to do so will reslut in the loss of all information stored in the Rampak, and could result in damage to either the Rampak or the Organiser.

When a Rampak is fitted to your Organiser, if you need to plug in or remove any other peripherals such as an RS232 Link, Bar Code Reader or Magnetic Card Swipe Reader, SWITCH OFF THE ORGANISER FIRST.

Version numbers

Different versions of the Organiser operating system treat Rampaks in slightly different ways. To find out the version of the operating system in your Organiser, type in the procedure VERNO: as described below.

Verno:

This procedure will display the version number of the operating ssytem of your Organiser. Select the PRRG option of your Organiser's main menu, press [N] (For NEW), and type in the procedure as it appears here. Don't forget to press [EXE] at the end of each line.

VERNO: LOCAL a% a%=PEEKB($FFE9) PRINT "Version:"; PRINT LEFT$(HEX$(a%),1); PRINT "."; PRINT RIGHT$(HEX$(a%),1) GET

When you have typed the procedure in, press the [MODE] key; press [EXE] to translate the procedure, then [EXE] again to save it to the current device. Now you can either use the RUN option in the PROG menu to run VERNO, or install the name VERNO into you top level menu and then run it from there. To do this, refer to chapter 16 of your main Organiser manual.

Your version number will fall into one of the two following cases:

Above 2.4

Your Rampak will work in the same way as the internal memory of the Organiser. Information may be saved and retrieved using the top level SAVE and FIND facilities; OPL procedures, data files, Diaries and RS232 set-ups may all be saved and retrieved. When they are deleted from the RAMPAK, the space freed may then be used for other information.

2.4 and Below

Your Rampak will work in the same way as the internal memory of the Organiser. Information may be saved and retrieved using the top level SAVE and FIND facilities, OPL procedures, data files, Diaries and RS232 set-ups may all be saved and retrieved. When they are deleted from the RAMPAK, the space freed may then be used for other information.

However, if you at any time delete the file on the Rampak called MAIN, all information stored on the Rampak will be lost and the Rampak will be re-initialised as new.

You may then save data on the Rampak as when you first bought it, but if at any time you use the Rampak on an Organiser with a version number above 2.4 then the Rampak will be re-initialised and all data stored on it will be lost.
