IH9

 


The template for the IH9 system is any hexagon with opposite sides parallel to one another; the sides of one pair are equal and the remaining other four sides are also all equal. All sides of the hexagon can be shaped, as indicated by the half-arrows. The template and any tile shape formed from it have a centre of two-fold rotation symmetry as indicated by the dog pattern. Two examples of the template are shown

 A section of the tiling formed by this template is shown below, with a translation cluster outlined.  The two basic translations are indicated by the the vectors drawn from the highlighted cluster. The tiling has two different centres of two-fold rotation symmetry and two different axes of glide reflection symmetry, as indicated.. The tiling symmetry group is pgg.

As an example, the following shape can be formed.

          

The associated tiling requires tiles of four different colours to avoid adjacent tiles having the same colour.
